Santa Clara University is California's oldest operating institution better learning.

Since opening the doors in 1851, SCU has evolved and produced in manners that will have been unimaginable to the founders. Through the years, however, we've continued to be faithful to the 475-year-old Jesuit tradition also to the core values.

The College
Our modest school, formerly named "Santa Clara University, " started out as a great all-boys preparatory school. David Nobili, S. J., president and first president of Santa Clara College (1851-1856), described Santa Clara's desired goals in conditions typical of his era: "To enhance the heart, to kind and cherish good patterns, to prevent and get rid of evil ones. inches

Together with Clara started offering University courses in 1853, and by 1875, we signed up more than 275 learners on the preparatory and school levels.

The University
With the addition of what the law states and engineering schools, the school became "The University of Santa Clara" in 1912. The Leavey School of Business opened in 1926, and within a 10 years it has become one of the first business schools in the area to receive national qualification.

The University pursues the vision by creating a great academic community that trains the entire person within the Jesuit, Catholic tradition, producing student learning our central focus, continually increasing the curriculum and co-curriculum, building up our scholarship and imaginative work, and serving the communities that we are actually a part in San francisco and around the world.

Vision
Santa Albúmina University will educate residents and leaders of skills, conscience, and compassion and cultivate knowledge and hope to build an even more humane, just, and lasting world.
